DARK KNUCKLES

COKE AND FANTA!

That's one common word an average Nigerian would say to insult people with dark knuckles. Here, dark knuckles are always associated with lightening (bleaching) skin care products.

Of course certain lightening products can make you have darker skin on your knuckles but sometimes it deeper than that, some really dark skinned people have darker skin knuckles too, have you not wondered why?

Researchers have found that dark knuckles are sometimes an indication of an underlying disease, like diabetes, or vitamin deficiency. Sudden dark knuckles might also be a reaction to a drug you are taking, such as oral contraceptive pills, estrogen therapy, injected insulin, etc. And dark knuckles can be inherited.

As regards to lightening products, that kind of dark knuckles is caused by hydroquinone or lipohydroxy acid that some of these products contain. To be safe, if you use and are about to purchase lightening products (body lotions and/OR bath gels), check the body of the product for the ingredients, if the product contains ingredients like ARBUTIN, KOJIC ACID, or LICORICE EXTRACT please drop it, because those ingredients are more likely to cause an allergic reaction and dark knuckles.

If you're sure your knuckles is not as a result of any underlying disease, heredity or even reaction to a drug you are taking then you can take further steps to rid yourself off them.

A simple routine like mixing baking soda with water into a paste and applying on your knuckles for 10 to 15 minutes

OR

lemon juice applied to your knuckles with a cotton ball daily, can give you good results.

For even better and quicker results I would recommend you get a hand cream, preferably our MILK AND HONEY GOLD NOURISHING HAND CREAM.

In the end this post was not created to cheer or bash use of lightening products, I have no right to tell you what to do with your skin, just learn to be comfortable with your hands, flaunt it, dark knuckles or not. The ignorant comments thrown at people with dark knuckles are pushing women to the edge and people are cashing out on their insecurities with products that would worsen their condition.

For some people, your knuckles are just fine, and normal (check the image below)

but certain people have formed an uninformed or unrealistic idea of what knuckles should look like, and the pressure would push others to mess up your skin in a bid to fix this problem that is not really a problem.

Do something about your knuckles only if you would like something different not because certain people think dark knuckles is a sin.
